Disney in Preliminary Talks with Nexstar Over ABC Sale 📺🐭

The Walt Disney Company is reportedly in initial discussions with Nexstar Media Group regarding the potential sale of its U.S. TV network, ABC. The exploratory talks emerged after comments from Disney CEO Bob Iger earlier this summer, suggesting that some of Disney's traditional TV assets, which have faced challenges due to the rise of streaming services, "might not be core" to its overarching business strategy.

While the discussions are still in the early stages and no sale price has been focused on, Nexstar has expressed interest, contingent on the "right price." Tom Carter, a top adviser to Nexstar CEO Perry Sook, emphasized the need for clarity from Disney on the potential sale's specifics.

Disney's ABC includes a national television network, eight regional stations, and affiliation agreements with approximately 240 local television stations. On the other hand, Nexstar, one of the nation's largest local news providers, boasts 200 owned or partnered stations in 116 markets, reaching over two-thirds of the U.S. population. The company has recently elevated its national media presence with acquisitions like a majority stake in The CW network and the launch of NewsNation.

Both companies have yet to comment on the matter, but the news has stirred the media industry and Wall Street, leading to a 1% rise in Disney shares and a nearly 6% jump for Nexstar. According to @LunarCrush , social engagements for $DISNEY have shot up nearly 400% as word spreads of a potential sale.
