Softbank's Arm Holdings Achieves $54.5 Billion Valuation in Major IPO

Arm Holdings Plc, the renowned chip designer, has been valued at $54.5 billion in its recent U.S. IPO, marking a significant increase from the $32 billion at which SoftBank Group Corp acquired it seven years ago. This valuation, however, is a step down from the $64 billion at which SoftBank recently increased its stake in the company. Despite the reduced valuation, it still outperforms SoftBank's previous $40 billion deal to sell Arm to Nvidia Corp, which faced antitrust regulatory challenges.

The IPO was priced at $51 per share, the upper limit of its range, enabling SoftBank to raise $4.87 billion from 95.5 million shares. Major tech giants like Apple, Nvidia, Alphabet, AMD, Intel, and Samsung Electronics have already committed as cornerstone investors in Arm's IPO.

While Arm dominates the mobile phone market with a 99% share, a decline in mobile demand has seen its revenue plateau. However, the company is optimistic about its growth potential in the cloud computing and automotive sectors, expecting growth rates of 17% and 16% respectively through 2025. Additionally, Arm's royalty revenue, a significant income source, has been on the rise, reaching $1.68 billion in the latest fiscal year. The company's substantial market in China, accounting for 24.5% of its recent annual revenue, remains a focal point for investors due to ongoing U.S.-China tensions.
